Lahore Elevated Expressway Project Likely to Restart

The Punjab government is seriously thinking about restarting work on the Elevated Expressway project in Lahore to help control the growing traffic issues in the city.

In a recent meeting, Housing Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal reviewed the current status of the project. He directed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to replan the project on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis.

The Housing Secretary also instructed officials to re-estimate the project’s cost and design. One proposal under discussion is to hand over the project on BOT terms for up to 30 years, during which toll may be collected from vehicles.

If revived, the Elevated Expressway is expected to reduce traffic pressure and provide relief to daily commuters in Lahore.
