Yorkshire have bolstered their squad with another major Pakistani signing ahead of a decisive period in their campaign, bringing in Imam-ul-Haq for the remainder of the domestic season.
Imam-ul-Haq, the left-handed opener with over 100 appearances across Test, ODI, and T20I formats for Pakistan, has reportedly joined the squad and will go straight into the side for Yorkshire’s County Championship fixture against Surrey at Scarborough beginning tomorrow. He is set to stay with the club through the Metro Bank One Day Cup and the final rounds of the County Championship in September, giving the club a much-needed boost.
Imam-ul-Haq is replacing India’s Ruturaj Gaikwad, who dropped out of the team for personal reasons.
The 29-year-old arrives for his stint with Yorkshire with a first-class average of 43, and remains an active participant in Pakistan’s domestic scene, despite falling out of the pecking order for the international side.
Gavin Hamilton, Yorkshire’s General Manager of Cricket, welcomed Imam-ul-Haq’s addition.
“We’re delighted that he has joined us and that he will be available immediately,” Hamilton said. “He has an impressive record and is already familiar with domestic cricket in this country, which will stand us in good stead for a crucial block of fixtures. We are grateful for the speed with which he has arrived, and everyone at the Club is looking forward to working with him through to the end of the season.” he added on Imam-ul-Haq.
Imam-ul-Haq isn’t even the first Pakistani to sign with Yorkshire this season, with Abdullah Shafique preceding him.
The signing comes at a pivotal time for Yorkshire, who are seeking momentum in both red and white-ball formats as the domestic season enters its final stretch. The club currently sits eighth in Division One, but are hoping for a positive end to the season, and now Imam-ul-Haq joins the same cause.
