Hasan Nawaz’s growing pains in international cricket have been laid bare once more after the youngster recorded another duck during the second T20I against Bangladesh. His latest six-ball stint without troubling the scorers in Dhaka has now landed him on an unwanted list.
After being dismissed five times for zero this year, Hasan Nawaz now trails only one player for most ducks in a calendar year in T20I cricket among ICC full members. The 22-year-old has now gone without scoring in five of his ten international T20 matches.
Most T20I Ducks in Calendar Year:
| Player | Ducks | Year | Country |
|---|---|---|---|
| Richard Ngarava | 6 | 2024 | Zimbabwe |
| Hasan Nawaz | 5 | 2025 | Pakistan |
| Regis Chakabva | 5 | 2022 | Zimbabwe |
| Blessing Muzarabani | 5 | 2024 | Zimbabwe |
| Sanju Samson | 5 | 2024 | India |
Hasan Nawaz’s misery doesn’t end there. He is also already tenth on the list for most T20I ducks in Pakistan’s history, a list led by Umar Akmal.
Most T20I Ducks for Pakistan:
| Player | Matches | Ducks |
|---|---|---|
| Umar Akmal | 84 | 10 |
| Shahid Afridi | 98 | 8 |
| Kamran Akmal | 58 | 7 |
| Mohammad Hafeez | 119 | 7 |
| Babar Azam | 128 | 7 |
| Umar Gul | 60 | 6 |
| Imad Wasim | 75 | 6 |
| Shadab Khan | 112 | 6 |
| Fakhar Zaman | 95 | 6 |
| Hasan Nawaz | 10 | 5 |
Despite his rough start to life in international cricket, the 22-year-old is expected to keep his place in the team as he continues to chart his own path.
He has shown promise on home surfaces, which suit his batting style, and his PSL X Player of the Tournament award is an indication he will come good after finding his feet. The whole team has failed to deal with the surfaces in Bangladesh and New Zealand, and pointing a finger at Hassan Nawaz would be unfair to the youngster.
With the Bangladesh series out of their reach, Pakistan and Hassan Nawaz’s next focus will be on the upcoming tour to the West Indies. The captious voices are only going to grow louder, and how Hasan Nawaz and the Pakistan team deal with them will define their legacies, especially with the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup in the offing.
