The already beleaguered World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 has been plunged into further uncertainty after the Pakistan Champions made it clear they are unwilling to share points with the India Champions following the abandonment of their much-anticipated fixture on Sunday.
The match was called off before even the toss could take place after Indian players reportedly pulled out of the contest, causing serious frustration in the Pakistan camp.
The game between arch-rivals Pakistan and India — scheduled to be one of the highlights of the tournament — was expected to draw major attention. However, fans were left disappointed when the India Champions did not take the field on the day of the contest, citing the recent Pakistan-India war as their reason for a boycott. This led to both teams being awarded a point each, which, according to Saj Sadiq, Pakistan Champions have taken issue with.
Typically, a team which fails to take the field surrenders all the points for that game, with the opponents declared victors. As India Champions were the team to pull out, they should be the ones docked the points. However, WCL bylaws will now be under the microscope as the organisers try to find a solution to this problem.
Pakistan Champions currently lead the table with three points from two games, after their win over England in the opening contest. If they are awarded all the points for the abandoned game, it will further strengthen their bid for the final compared to the other five teams.
Tournament organisers have yet to make an official decision on the points distribution, but pressure is mounting from the Pakistan camp to award them full points. The incident has also cast a shadow over the credibility and management of the WCL, especially given the high-profile nature of the teams and players involved.
With more games coming thick and fast, fans and players alike will be eager for clarity. For now, though, the controversy hangs over the tournament like a cloud and the rivalry between Pakistan and India has found yet another flashpoint, even without a ball being bowled.
