Following electric buses, Lahore is preparing to launch electric trams as part of its public transport system, according to a spokesperson for the Orange Line.
The government has ordered electric trams from China to promote greener and more eco-friendly travel across the city. The spokesperson said each tram can travel 25 to 27 kilometres after just 10 minutes of charging.
The trams will have a three-compartment design and can carry up to 250 passengers at once. “The first trams are being assembled at the Ali Town Depot,” the spokesperson added.
This new service will begin as a trial run. The proposed pilot route will run from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura.
“At first, the tram service will be free of cost,” said the spokesperson. “If the trial is successful, ticket prices will be introduced for regular use.”
Wastage of money and resources. We have much more important things do. What will happen to old buses?
Oh bhai please tell me where is metro running already on this route? Thokar to harbanspura? Rather than thanking Allah that some thing good and affordable is going to available zo us. You are right sir, another Speedo bus should be introduced from Railway Station to Burki, many people travel on this route.
I think, It is a good initiative but it should be for different routes as well. Are the people living and working in between Thokar to Harbanspura Only ?
Government has responsibility to facilitate all the areas.
Tram / electric Buses have same purpose (GREEN ENVIRONMENT) …So, I think they should consider more routes with Electric buses than that of such new inventory for the same track.

Bhai sari buses alag alag routes par chalti Hain aur Kisi city ka jitna acha metro system HOTA hai wo city itni hi developed hoti hai

This of Tram service should be operated on Karachi Circular track. Starting from West Wharf and travel semi circle thru Karachi Site area, Nazimabad , Civic Center, karachi Cricket stadium and end at Sharah e Faisal.

Tram ka idea buhat acha hai,mein kafy arsay say chahty thy k hamary country mein foreign countries ky tarah facilities Hon,I am so happy to take this step,I am proud of my government.but aik cheez hai jo myjhay achy nahi lagi woh tram ky shap hai specially front shap,isky shap round nahi bazwy type hony chahiye,mein pic share karna chahty thy but yahan option nahi hai,please isky shape bullet train type ky banaeyn.Aur electricity aur saverage ka system bhi underground karein please please please aur carbige k lye aisy dust bin lagaeyn jo underground Hon aur unper likha ho k is mein plastic dalyn aur ismein tin etc dalyn means like coke tin or oil tin aur ismein shooper dalyn etc like France. I’m in support, it’s going to be a great project. I’m proud to see my country advancing in technology! These trains are eco friendly and can reduce pollution…. Lahore is very polluted and I agree with this idea! There are some people criticizing in comments but there are many More who’ll be happy but they don’t have time to waste here and illiterate people will anyways think this is corruption! Kya Punjab me sirf aik city Lahore hi reh gya hai? Lahore ka transport system already baqi cities se boht behtar hai. Sialkot, Faisalabad, Multan kya cities nahi hai ya phir wo Punjab me shamil nahi hai. Resources ko waste karna koi in se seekhy 🙂
