A devastating traffic accident in Saudi Arabia has claimed the lives of seven Pakistani Umrah pilgrims, all from the same family residing in Dagai Khudokhel, Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to ARY News.
Among the deceased were four children, while five other family members sustained injuries in the incident. The family had traveled to the Kingdom 11 days before performing Umrah. The funeral prayers for the victims will be held in Saudi Arabia, as confirmed by relatives.
This heartbreaking loss comes shortly after the Ministry of Religious Affairs reported that 18 Pakistani pilgrims—10 men and 8 women—passed away during Hajj 2025, primarily due to health-related complications such as heart conditions. All were buried in Jannatul Baqi, the revered cemetery in Medina.
Compared to 2024, when 35 Pakistani pilgrims died during Hajj, this year has seen a significant decline in casualties, likely due to improved safety and medical protocols implemented by Saudi authorities.
According to official Saudi statistics:
To ensure safety during the intense summer heat, Saudi authorities enforced advanced cooling strategies across Hajj sites—especially after last year’s record heat that resulted in over 1,300 deaths due to temperatures soaring to 51.8°C (125°F).
This recent road tragedy serves as another somber reminder of the importance of ensuring traveler safety during religious pilgrimages. The Pakistani government and consulate are expected to coordinate with Saudi authorities for support to the injured family members and the facilitation of the last rites.
