PMD Issues Flood Alert for Islamabad and Rawalpindi

A flood warning has been issued for Islamabad and Rawalpindi as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts heavy rainfall between July 28 and 31.

The PMD cautions that intensified monsoon currents, expected to peak by July 28, along with a westerly weather system arriving on July 29, could bring widespread downpours, especially in areas prone to water accumulation.

Authorities have been alerted to the heightened risk of urban flooding in low-lying neighborhoods of both cities.

The PMD also flagged the possibility of flash floods in local streams and drainage channels. Additionally, strong winds, intense rainfall, and lightning can pose threats to fragile buildings, power lines, billboards, and solar panels. There is also a risk of landslides and potential road blockages in the surrounding hilly regions.

Officials have been urged to remain vigilant and implement necessary safety measures. The PMD has also advised residents, travelers, and tourists to exercise caution and stay informed about the latest weather updates.
