The Federal Cabinet has approved the Green Building Code of Pakistan, and the Rainwater Harvesting Provisions for Building Code of Pakistan.
These new national standards will ensure green, energy-efficient and water-conserving buildings.
The Green Building Code applies to all new buildings, with four plus floors, emphasizing energy conservation, solar design, green roofs, energy efficient lighting, and integration of renewable energy sources etc.
It mandates the use of eco-friendly materials and Building Information Modeling (BIM) for efficient building management, significantly reducing energy consumption and enhancing indoor environmental quality.
The Rainwater Harvesting Code applies to residential, commercial and industrial buildings, mandating systems to collect, filter, and reuse rainwater.
This initiative aims to address Pakistan’s escalating water scarcity by promoting groundwater recharge and reducing dependency on municipal water supplies.
The codes have been approved as Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Bye-Laws and align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
These codes mark a pivotal move toward sustainable, climate-resilient infrastructure actions will be greatly beneficial for a greener, energy efficient and more climate-resilient Pakistan, improving better quality of life for Pakistanis citizens as well as the planet.

And it is suggested that a similar regulatory process may be considered for the construction of new houses with tax incentives and technical assistance provided to the house-owners for including rain harvest devices and soler panels in the architectural plans of their houses.
Rain harvesting should be made mandatory for all hosing societies.

بارش کا پانی نالوں ، ندی نالوں اور نہروں میں ضائع نہ ہو ۔جو کہ اخر کار سمندر میں گر جاتا ہے۔یا سیلاب کا باعث بنتا ہے۔
یہ کچی جگہیں بارش کا پانی زمین کے اندر پانی جذب کرتی ہیں اور زمین کے اندر پانی کا لیول بھی گرنے نہیں دیتیں ۔
ہمارے پاکستان میں زمین کا پانی بڑی تیزی سے نیچے گر رہا ہے باہر کے ملکوں میں تو سوراخ کر کے زمین کے اندر بارش کا پانی لے کر جاتے ہیں بڑے بڑے سوراخ کر کے بارش کا پانی زمین میں جذب کر کے زمینی پانی کو نیچے گرنے سے بچا رہے ہیں ہمارے یہاں زمینی پانی کھینچنے کے لیے لال پمپ جو ہے وہ بھی بیکار ہو رہے ہیں کیونکہ پانی کا لیول زمینی نیچے گر رہا ہے
ٹیکسز ان کو دو اور پانی بجلی علاج معالج بلکہ تمام ضروریات زندگی کا بندوبست خود کرو۔
