British-Pakistani businessman and politician, Aamer Sarfraz has been named Chancellor of the University of East London (UEL).
Originally from Gujrat, Aamer Sarfraz is widely respected for his achievements in business, public service, and philanthropy. He joined the UK House of Lords in 2019 and previously served as a special envoy during Boris Johnson’s tenure as Prime Minister. At the time, he was among the youngest members of Parliament.
In his new position, Sarfraz will act as the university’s ceremonial leader and representative. The Vice-Chancellor of UEL called his appointment a proud moment and expressed strong confidence in Aamer Sarfraz’s ability to embody and promote the university’s mission and values.
Currently, Sarfraz serves on the UK’s Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy. He is an alumnus of Boston University, the London School of Economics, and the Royal College of Defense Studies.
Upon his appointment, Sarfraz remarked, “It is a great honor to become Chancellor of the University of East London. UEL has given its students the skills and confidence to shape their futures, and I am dedicated to furthering the university’s mission and supporting future leaders and innovators.”
