The Punjab government has rolled out a financial incentive program offering up to Rs. 100,000 to encourage residents to switch from petrol motorcycles to electric bikes.
As part of the Chief Minister’s Green Credit Program, eligible citizens can receive a green credit of up to Rs. 100,000 by purchasing a new electric motorcycle and registering through the official portal. The initiative aims to cut carbon emissions and promote cleaner transportation across the province.
Who Is Eligible?
Program head Rizwana Anjum explained that citizens who buy an electric bike after December 2024 are eligible. Applicants must provide the following details:
- Purchase date of the electric bike
- Bike company and model
- Registration number
- Chassis number
- Copy of the registration book
- Clear photographs of the vehicle
A program representative will verify the application in person. Upon successful verification, the beneficiary will receive an initial payment of Rs. 50,000.
Second Payment Linked to Usage
To qualify for the second installment of Rs. 50,000, users must connect their electric bike to the Green Credit mobile app. Those who log 6,000 kilometers of travel within six months of registration will receive the remaining amount.
Scope of the Program
The government aims to convert 2,000 petrol bikes and 250 other vehicles to electric alternatives this fiscal year. This transition is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 8,000 tonnes annually. The broader objective is to shift 30% of Punjab’s transport fleet to electric vehicles by 2030, cutting transport emissions by 20%.
Retrofitted Bikes Not Eligible
Officials from the Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) clarified that the scheme does not cover retrofitted bikes. Only new electric motorcycles purchased and registered under the program will qualify for the cash incentive.

I don’t know which people of Pakistan have been obtaining benefits from the Punjab government anyhow I’m living in southern Punjab in Multan and I didn’t obtain any benefit even of a Penny from this government

To people I talked to who owned electric bikes and commentators on YT, the batteries of the electric bikes sold in Pakistan do not last long enough to make them beneficial or give them a favorable cost/benefit ratio. So this is another program headed for failure.
Price scotry
I totally agree most of the brands are selling ev with graphene battery it’s same as lead acid battery which doesn’t last long.
Always check the specs and only buy EVs with Lifepo4 (lithium ion phosphate) battery pack.

6000 KM means extra electric load increase and undue congestion on roads. It should be converted whenever the owner completes 6000 KM travel the amount will be credited into his/her account.
EPA is requested to clearly define the Manufacturing Companies of Electric bikes with thier specifications which comes under scheme, so the applicants will not blame the Government of Punjab for not doing compliance of their commitments.

Embassies in diplomatic Enclave Islamabad strongly forbidden their emoyees to use or bring electric motorcycles. I think before taking any initiative a home work should properly be done so that it will not cause inconvenience to people or owners of electric bikes.
