The Punjab government is reviewing a proposal to include service ducts in major road construction projects across Lahore and other cities to reduce repeated road digging.
A spokesperson for the housing, urban development, and public health engineering department said a special committee will soon be formed to consult all relevant stakeholders, including the Safe Cities Authority and telecommunications departments.
The goal is to determine the right size and placement of service ducts to ensure their future utility. He noted that repeated road excavations cause public inconvenience.
According to him, including service ducts will help conserve resources, improve infrastructure, and extend road life.
The official added that development work across Punjab is progressing rapidly with a focus on resilience and long-term benefits. Planning is also being done under environmentally friendly policies to ensure sustainable and citizen-focused urban growth.

Thumbs up 👍 to the Punjab govt but it should be replicate in all other provinces and areas.
So now they are going to form a committee….
To look into repeated road digging….🙄🙄🙄🙄
We’re they sleeping all these years
Road building has become a highly developed art and science. We need to adopt the best practices of the developed world and heavily penalise contractors whose ‘handiwork’ deteriorates or disappears within a stipulated time. But,for that we’ll have to curb/eradicate corruption and greed first!
🧐
How it is possible to eliminate road digging. Corrupt mafia is always active. Making new roads and immediately digging for sui gas work or ptcl work or sewage or just bad sewage system and water lines leakages destroy roads in days. No proper planning, no permission before digging. All are indicating corruption.
Thanks Good, late is better never. Appreciate, positive/ long-term thinking has started. It’s Punjab Govt initiative well done.
First service duct was laid in London in 1863.Mashallah we have realized this in 2025 that it is necessory part of town planning.
