The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on Friday, August 15, in observance of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
According to a notification issued by the Sindh Education Department, all public and private educational institutions across the province will remain closed on that day.
Chehlum is observed to commemorate the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala. Religious gatherings and processions are expected throughout the province.
While the Education Department has specifically announced the August 15 holiday for Chehlum, it is worth noting that Thursday, August 14, is already a national public holiday for Pakistan’s Independence Day.
As a result, schools and colleges in Sindh will observe two consecutive days off on August 14 and 15.
Institutions have been advised to plan their academic activities accordingly, and all relevant departments are expected to ensure smooth observance of Chehlum-related events and public safety.
