Seventh Monsoon Spell Expected This Week

Pakistan is set to experience its seventh round of monsoon rains starting August 13, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The fresh spell is expected to bring widespread showers across Punjab, impacting several regions and river basins.

While the rains are anticipated to provide relief from the summer heat, authorities have also issued a flood advisory as a precaution. The PDMA has warned that the upcoming rainfall could cause water levels to rise in major rivers, including the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum.

Officials have instructed district administrations and relevant departments to remain alert and prepared for any emergencies. Residents living near riverbanks are advised to take necessary precautions, and the public is reminded to avoid swimming in rivers, canals, and streams during this period.

DG PDMA Punjab, Irfan Ali Kathia, emphasized the importance of evacuating people and livestock from riverine areas as a precaution. He also reminded the public that swimming or bathing in rivers, canals, streams, and ponds is strictly prohibited during this period. In case of emergencies, citizens are urged to contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
