Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Tuesday announced that another fleet of 100 electric buses is being loaded at Yantai Port, China, and is expected to set sail tonight.
The chief minister said that these buses are destined for previously underserved districts of Punjab, including Mianwali, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Pakpattan, and Dera Ghazi Khan, areas that have long lacked a formal public transport system.
In a post on X, she pointed out that the fare for this service will be just Rs. 20.
“This modern, eco-friendly fleet will offer air-conditioned, WiFi-enabled transportation, equipped with a fully automated ticketing system. Designed to be inclusive, the buses will be accessible for people with disabilities and provide a safe, comfortable, and secure travel experience for citizens of Punjab,” the chief minister said.
