The Punjab Food Authority (PFA), in partnership with UNICEF, has kicked off the second phase of its School Nutrition Program after the initial phase yielded positive results.
A recent consultative session brought together officials from both organizations, where PFA’s Director of Planning & Coordination, Muneer Hussain Chopra, provided an update on the initiative’s achievements and future goals.
UNICEF reiterated its support for the program, with both parties agreeing to ramp up training sessions and awareness drives focused on balanced nutrition, food diversity, and the importance of key micronutrients.
PFA Director General Asim Javaid shared that a comprehensive rollout plan is now in place to ensure students and communities have access to safe and nutritious food. He pointed out that zinc and iron deficiencies affect 25% and 30% of children, respectively, contributing to a range of health concerns.
PFA’s team of nutritionists is actively working with students to promote healthier eating habits, with the new phase aiming for greater impact and long-term sustainability. The Director General also highlighted that combating malnutrition requires a unified and proactive strategy.
UNICEF officials commended the PFA’s leadership in nutrition initiatives and pledged ongoing collaboration to address dietary challenges throughout Punjab.
