Female teachers in Sialkot will soon be given electric bikes to support their daily commute, an initiative launched with assistance from the local business community.
According to Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali, the program is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision to provide safer and more convenient transport for women educators.
Applications were invited earlier this month, and more than 650 teachers have already applied. The deadline for submissions was set for August 10.
The eligibility criteria include an upper age limit of 35 years. Both permanent and contract teachers had been eligible to apply, with widows, divorced women, and those serving as the sole earners of their households given priority.
The e-bikes will be handed out through a computerized ballot to ensure transparency.
Earlier, as part of Independence Day celebrations, the district administration distributed e-bikes to 14 female teachers with support from donors. Officials believe the project will not only ease mobility challenges for women but also reduce environmental pollution by encouraging the use of clean energy vehicles.
