In response to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy to torrential rainfall over the next 72 hours, authorities in Islamabad have announced the temporary closure of popular hiking trails in the Margalla Hills.
Acting on recommendations from the Director General of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the decision has been made to prioritize public safety amid the adverse weather conditions.
The affected trails include Trail 2, Trail 3, Trail 4, Trail 5, and the trail behind Saidpur Village. These trails will remain closed to the public until August 19, 2025. The move aims to protect citizens, including hikers and visitors, from potential risks posed by the heavy rainfall in the Federal Capital.
This decision aligns with broader safety measures being implemented across the country as heavy monsoon activity continues to impact various regions. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to experience widespread rain and thunderstorms, with areas such as Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, and Mansehra at risk of flash floods from August 17 to 19.
Similarly, torrential rains may trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, and Galliyat during the same period. Authorities have urged the public to avoid traveling to affected areas and to stay updated on weather conditions to ensure their safety.
