Pakistan Navy Launches Third Hangor-Class Submarine in China

The Pakistan Navy on Friday launched its third Hangor-class submarine, PNS/M Mangro (Desig), at the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd, Shuangliu Base, Wuhan, China.

According to a Navy statement, Vice Admiral Abdul Samad, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Project-2, attended the ceremony as the chief guest.

He underlined the growing importance of maritime security in light of regional geo-strategic dynamics and reaffirmed Pakistan Navy’s resolve to safeguard national interests while promoting a secure maritime environment.

Highlighting the capabilities of the Hangor-class submarines, Vice Admiral Abdul Samad noted that their advanced sensors and weapon systems would strengthen deterrence, help sustain the regional balance of power, and ensure maritime stability.

He praised the efforts of China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company Ltd (CSOC) and Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group in completing the project milestones, terming the submarines a symbol of the enduring partnership between Pakistan and China.

Pakistan had earlier signed an agreement with CSOC to acquire eight Hangor-class submarines, with four to be built in China and four at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Ltd under a transfer-of-technology arrangement.

Senior officials from both Pakistan and China attended the launch ceremony.
