The Punjab government has introduced the province’s first-ever comprehensive internship program for 1,000 veterinary graduates and paraveterinary professionals. A substantial budget of Rs. 600 million has been allocated for this landmark initiative.
Under the Chief Minister’s Internship Program, veterinary graduates will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 60,000, while paravets and livestock assistants will be given Rs. 40,000 per month during the internship.

Veterinary graduates holding a DVM degree approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) can apply within their respective districts. Similarly, youth who have completed the two-year LAD diploma are also eligible to apply. Applications can be submitted online from home through the official portal: www.jobs.punjab.gov.pk.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that through this internship program, livestock farmers will be able to access animal treatment and consultation services at their doorstep. She emphasized that the program is designed to promote and modernize the livestock sector in Punjab, while also providing young professionals with field experience along with financial support.
Maryam Nawaz added that the government aims to fully harness the potential of Punjab’s livestock sector. By increasing milk and meat production, the province can significantly contribute to foreign exchange reserves. “We want to transform Punjab into a hub of livestock and dairy development. We stand with livestock farmers today and will continue to support them in the future,” she remarked.
It is noteworthy that quotas have been allocated for Veterinary Assistants, AI Technicians, and Lab Assistants across all 36 districts of Punjab.

This is a really great step by the Punjab government to support fresh veterinary graduates and strengthen the livestock sector. Programs like these not only help students financially but also give them practical exposure in the field.
One question though — will these internships eventually lead to permanent job opportunities in government departments, or will participants have to apply again after the program ends?
I’ve also been reading about other initiatives like the greentaxischeme.pk
, and it feels like Punjab is finally moving toward policies that support both professionals and the general public at the same time. Really hoping these schemes are implemented transparently so they can benefit the right people.
