Sarfaraz Ahmed Fully Supports New-Look Pakistan T20 Squad

Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has thrown his full support behind the 17-member squad announced for the upcoming Tri-Nation series against Afghanistan and UAE in Sharjah and the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE.

Speaking at a private event in Karachi, Sarfaraz Ahmed praised the selectors for announcing what he described as a “balanced and timely” squad, capable of delivering in both tournaments. He specifically lauded opener Fakhar Zaman, calling him the backbone of Pakistan’s batting order.

“Fakhar Zaman is the backbone of Pakistan’s batting. Whenever the team has needed him, he has stepped up and performed,” Sarfaraz said.

He added that the conditions in the UAE would suit Pakistan, giving the new-look squad a good chance to settle in and make an impact.

The former skipper also applauded the opportunities given to younger players like Salman Mirza, Sahibzada Farhan, and Hasan Nawaz, expressing hope that they could rise to the occasion.

With Pakistan grouped alongside India, Oman, and the UAE in the Asia Cup, Sarfaraz Ahmed believes the squad has the potential to both qualify comfortably and challenge for the title.

Describing the team as one “beginning to take shape,” the ex-captain backed the blend of youth and experience, stressing that the squad can make the most of favorable UAE conditions and mount a serious challenge.

Pakistan begins their campaign on August 29 against Afghanistan in the tri-series before turning their attention to the Asia Cup opener against Oman on September 12, followed by the high-octane clash against India on September 14.
