Wasim Akram Responds to Viral AI-Generated Video Claiming He’s Dead

Pakistani cricket great Wasim Akram has responded after AI-generated videos falsely claiming his death spread across social media, assuring fans that he is alive and well.

In a video message shared on Instagram, Wasim addressed the rumors directly after receiving a flood of messages from concerned fans over the past few days.

Reacting to the false reports, he mocked the claims with sarcasm, saying he was apparently recording the video after dying. He also urged people to think before believing such content and questioned how many were still unable to tell the difference between real and fake news.

Wasim said the fake clips were easy to spot within seconds and expressed surprise that so many people had fallen for them. He revealed that the fabricated videos also used AI-generated versions of the voices of Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar to make the hoax appear more believable.

While criticizing those behind the misleading content, Wasim said the same effort and skill could have been used in a more productive way. He added that intelligence is needed even to copy something properly, using a Punjabi proverb to make his point.

The former Pakistan captain thanked fans for checking in on him and ended his message by reassuring everyone in English that he was completely safe and in good health.

The fake death rumors had triggered widespread concern online before being debunked, with many fans later flooding the comments section with messages of relief and support for the former fast-bowling icon.
