Poor Planning Causes Severe Traffic Jams on Major Road in Lahore

Unfinished patchwork on Canal Bank Road is causing major problems for commuters, leading to long traffic jams, increased air pollution, and frequent accidents.

Large portions of the busy road, starting from Thokar to Harbanspura, have been dug up in patches, forcing drivers to navigate zigzag paths.

The disruption is most visible near Jinnah Hospital underpass, FC College underpass, and Jail Road underpass, where vehicles often remain stuck in long queues.

Surprisingly, no warning signs such as “Work in Progress” or “Construction Ahead” have been placed to alert drivers. Citizens also noted that no information is available about which agency is carrying out the patchwork.

Frustrated commuters told reporters that authorities should put up clear signage on Canal Bank Road and its connecting roads so drivers can plan alternate routes. Many residents have also raised the issue on social media, tagging Punjab’s chief minister, chief secretary, and officials from the Lahore Development Authority (LDA).

A similar situation is unfolding on Bund Road, which has been dug up for sewer line installation. Despite earlier directives from senior officials to place warning signs at all public projects, poor monitoring continues to create traffic chaos across the city.
