The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has advised citizens and tourists to postpone travel plans to Gilgit-Baltistan following heavy rains, flooding, and landslides that have cut off several major roads.
In a travel advisory issued through the National Emergency Operations Centre, the NDMA cautioned that the northern region remains highly vulnerable due to persistent downpours and glacial activity.
The authority said safety risks have increased, with blocked roads and damaged bridges leaving many routes inaccessible.
According to the advisory, landslides have blocked the Shyok River bridge near Saltoro, while the Astak Bridge on the Jaglot–Skardu Road has been partially damaged, allowing only one-way traffic.
Other roads that remain closed include Diamer–Ghizer Road, Shandur Road, Khalti Road, Dain Road, and Ishkoman Road. In Skardu, access to Kargil, Kharmang, and Shigar has also been disrupted.
Restoration teams, however, have managed to reopen some routes. Traffic has resumed on the Surmo Bridge in Ghanche, Bagicha Road in Skardu, the Gulmit–Gojal Road in Hunza, the Jaglot–Gilgit Road via Guro, and Chilam Road in Astore.
The NDMA urged the public to stay informed through official updates before attempting any travel to Gilgit-Baltistan.
