A heartbreaking incident in Punjab has left an entire family devastated after two brothers were brutally beaten to death over a dispute of just Rs. 30 at a roadside fruit stall.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, Rashid and Wajid, residents of Ratti Pindi village in Kot Radha Kishan tehsil, were returning home on August 21 after delivering milk when they stopped at a fruit stall in Lahore’s Raiwind area to buy bananas.
The total bill was Rs. 130, but the brothers only had Rs. 100 and a Rs. 5,000 note. When the vendor refused to accept the amount or provide change, the brothers suggested deducting Rs. 30 worth of bananas from the purchase. The fruit seller refused, sparking a heated argument.
The quarrel escalated when the vendor, identified as Owais, called his brother Taimur and friends playing cricket nearby. The group attacked the brothers with sticks and cricket bats. Both victims suffered severe injuries; Wajid died instantly, while Rashid later succumbed at the hospital.
Their father, Saeed Iqbal, expressed his grief while speaking to a local news reporter. Fighting back tears, he said:
“My sons were killed over just Rs. 30 – the life of one was valued at Rs. 15. No one kills even animals the way they killed my sons. Hundreds stood by recording videos instead of helping.”
He added that one of his sons, Wajid, was fondly known as “Little Maxwell” for his cricketing talent, drawing comparisons to Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell. “People invited him to tournaments and paid him Rs. 10,000–15,000. Rashid, my elder son, was 28 and father to four children,” he said.
An FIR has been lodged at Raiwind City Police Station on Saeed Iqbal’s complaint. Authorities confirmed that both Owais and Taimur have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to identify and trace their other accomplices involved in the attack.
