Public Holiday Announced as Sialkot Drowns After Record-Breaking Rain

Sialkot witnessed unprecedented rainfall of 405 millimeters within 24 hours, bringing daily life in the city to a complete standstill. In response, the district administration declared a public holiday on Wednesday to minimize risks for residents.

This torrential downpour shattered a 49-year-old record, as the previous highest rainfall was recorded on August 6, 1976, at 339.7 millimeters.

Meanwhile, the situation in Gujrat has become increasingly concerning, with the Head Marala Barrage nearing dangerous levels. Against its storage capacity of 1.1 million cusecs, the water flow has already surged beyond 900,000 cusecs, threatening nearby villages with flooding. Authorities have urged citizens to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

Bhimber Nullah in High Flood

Heavy rainfall in Kharian and surrounding areas pushed the Bhimber Nullah into a high flood situation. Villages including Galyana, Do Do Barsala, Gujjar Kotla, Miana Chak, Panjan Kasana, and others have been placed on high alert.

In Sialkot city, several low-lying neighborhoods remain submerged, adding to the challenges faced by residents.
