The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted fresh showers in Karachi from August 30 to September 2, cautioning authorities about the risk of urban flooding during this period.
According to the forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are also expected in Islamabad from August 29 to September 2, while heavy downpours are likely in northern and north-eastern Punjab on August 30 and 31. Cities likely to be affected include Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin.

Karachi, still reeling from last week’s torrential rains, witnessed catastrophic scenes when many neighborhoods were submerged, forcing rescue teams to use boats to evacuate stranded residents. At least 15 people lost their lives in rain-related accidents, while flooding destroyed livelihoods and left hundreds struggling.
The city recorded over 200 millimetres of rain, causing severe damage to infrastructure. Roads remain in poor condition, with stagnant water mixed with sewage still present in several areas, while residents continue to suffer prolonged power outages days after the rain subsided.
The PMD has urged citizens to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and take precautionary measures as the city braces for another spell of heavy rainfall.
