Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has warned of a massive flood surge, with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) forecasting a flow of 1.1 million cubic feet per second (cusecs). He declared that the province must prepare for a “super flood.”
Speaking to the media in Kashmore, he emphasized the urgent need to safeguard both human lives and livestock. He noted that should the water rise to 900,000 or 1 million cusecs, low-lying (‘kachcha’) areas could be swallowed. All this critical information has already been shared with district administrations.
The CM ordered district authorities to coordinate closely with NDMA and said Army units are standing by for support. He added that 192 rescue boats from NDMA are ready to assist in evacuations.
He urged that preserving lives, livestock, and vital infrastructure such as barrages and embankments must be the top priority. If successful, the province can overcome the super flood.
He expressed hope that the water levels would begin receding within 48 hours, after which efforts will begin to return people to their homes. For those who suffer loss in ‘kachcha’ areas, housing will be provided under Chairman Bilawal’s direction.
The chief minister also assured that if crops are damaged, the government will provide compensation. He appealed to the public to remain patient, reassuring them that the government stands with them in this crisis.
