Islamabad experienced a significant rainfall event on Monday, with Sector H-8/2 recording nearly 95mm of rain within one hour. The event was caused by the interaction of easterly and westerly currents, a common meteorological pattern during the monsoon season.
The heavy downpour was attributed to a passing shower, a feature often observed during monsoon activity, a senior Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) official told ProPakistani.
Passing showers are brief but intense bursts of rain, typically lasting between 15 to 30 minutes, although in some cases they may extend to 40 to 50 minutes, the official elaborated.
He added that this form of rainfall does not involve prolonged cloud cover and is usually the result of rapid atmospheric instability triggered by colliding wind currents.
The interaction of moist easterlies and cooler westerlies can lead to sudden cloud formation and concentrated rainfall over limited areas, the official concluded.
