Did the Government Really Cancel the Bike Lane in Punjab?

Recent media reports suggesting the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has discontinued the bike lane on Ferozepur Road have caused confusion among citizens and commuters. Multiple outlets and social media users circulated the claim, but most failed to provide official confirmation, making the reports speculative and misleading.

To clarify the situation, the LDA’s Public Relations Officer, Osama Mehmood, issued a statement rejecting the rumors. He confirmed that LDA has not ended the bike lane project and labeled the viral news reports as false and clickbait.

According to Mehmood, the only change made was initiated by the Traffic Police Lahore, not LDA. Concrete dividers were removed on a specific portion of the road due to accident risks during peak hours. However, this did not lead to the cancellation of the bike lane project itself.

Bike Lane Remains Operational

To verify the current state of the bike lane, a ground survey was conducted from Chungi to Qaddafi Flyover. The findings are as follows:

  • Chungi to Kalma Flyover: Concrete dividers have been removed for safety purposes.
  • Kalma Flyover to Qaddafi Flyover: Dividers remain in place, and the bike lane continues to operate as intended.

Despite rumors, the Ferozepur Road bike lane project remains active. The changes made were safety-related and temporary, initiated by the Traffic Police. LDA confirmed that the project is still a part of Lahore’s broader urban mobility and traffic management plan.
