Punjab Makes Important Decision About Lahore Bike Lane Project [Updated]

Update: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has denied reports suggesting the city’s first experimental bike lane has been discontinued. Spokesperson Osama Mehmood clarified that the project remains intact and functional, while concrete dividers were removed by Lahore Traffic Police after accidents on Ferozepur Road.

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to discontinue the city’s first experimental bike lane project after it failed to ease traffic on one of the busiest roads, reported a private news channel.

The pilot project was introduced on Ferozepur Road, where separate lanes for motorbikes were created between Kalma Chowk and Lahore Bridge.

The lanes were marked with curb-stone dividers to separate them from regular traffic. However, the new arrangement caused severe congestion, forcing LDA to reconsider.

Officials confirmed that the dividers on one side of the road were removed last night, reconnecting the lane with the main flow of traffic. The remaining section, running from Lahore Bridge back to Kalma Chowk, will be dismantled within the next week.

While the dividers are being taken down, the painted markings and symbols of the bike lane will remain visible.

  • That’s awesome .Finally more accidents on the roads.
The reason it failed was bcz motorcycles weren’t using it

But it’s OK. Life is Cheap. One more good step going down the drain.

The country is falling and the plastic doll cm is the reason

  • What type of people are we, instead of appreciation the project was laughed upon. Furthermore biker’s didn’t realise this facility and continued using the main road which lead to congestion.
We don’t deserve such facilities, LDA has rightfully though to remove biker’s lane.

    • Dear as an urban planner I can tell you I have never seen more foolish and unjustified planning being done in Lahore, anywhere in the world. You don’t just implement a policy out of no where neither introduce a separate lane on a road that is already unable to fulfill the current capacity of motor vehicles. Neither can you force people into submission Lahore is a old city its policy should be tailored to it with step by step implementation not with a hammer.

    • For all of us, One can only say SubhanAllah. . It was soo much ease for bikers but they obviously with no basic traffic sense never realised . Actualy it was a great initiative by the government, but sadly .

    • Sir smjdar lgty or patwari b lgty ha ap mgr shyd ap us way m bat kr ry h k projct ho rha ..but kia ap ko aql ni thi k itny bzi road jo k main ferozpur road ha wha 3 lane total ha bhai jan ik lane biker ko dy rhy or us m b divdr bna rhy ho …aby aql k andho ik green lane bnay or apna cctv us lane pa set kry jo wha sa bike agy pchy ho us k chlan khud ho jy ga ….kia ye projct betr ni tha ik chotiya bndy ko b samj a ri is ki ab q remov kr ry sirf chori krni h raj k kro

    • What are you even on about? The ratio of bikes and cars makes it way more difficult to maintain the flow of the traffic. These lanes work where bikes are just in thousands in numbers. But this is not the case here.

  • It was bound to fail from the start because ferozepoor road is very wide road and it did not need another bikers lane. I think the purpose of this project was just to make some money for some politicians son or brother-in-law because even a layman knew that this project is not needed in a wide road like dferozepur .. now the money has been eaten so project also finished

    • Bhai bike walay left lane may nahi chaltay. Unka randi rona hota hai k gaari walay left lane may jagha nahi daitay. Usme ilawa accident’s bohot zyadah hain. Govt ne bikers ko aik dedicated lane day di k issme chalao jisme koi gaari wala nahi aaye ga. Lakin awam ki jahaalt or dhataie ko salam k kisi ne usme bike lay jana gawara nahi ki.

  • Traffic rules are required to be enforced. People will not follow these rules voluntarily. The violates should be fined.

  • I was skeptical of this bike lane. Having said that, had I been riding my motorbike (and not the car) during this time, I would have respected the law but unfortunately people want to stick to the route they had in mind since the time they woke up.

A lot of grooming for bikers, and drivers of other vehicles was needed. I hope it didn’t result in any serious accidents as most people act on their egos and not laws (دوسرے کو راستہ نہیں دینا جیسے وہ آپکی روٹی پر ہاتھ مار رہا ہے).

Having said that, the rule “bikers on the left” is unheard of anywhere else in the world. It should rather be “slow vehicles on the left or middle”.

I have seen people driving in the right-most lane and agitating others because they have an important phonecall going on, or having some ice cream or candid discussion.

This silly rule of “bikers on the left” need to be scrapped. Your route and speed should determine your lane, not the type of vehicle you’re driving.

    • Bhai mai aapki baat say agree nahi krta. With or without bike lane bikers are supposed to ride on most left lane. Its for their own safety. Mai roz ferozpur pr daikhta hu k kisi na kisi bike walay ka accident huva hota hai. Or wo bhi top lane may. Wo top lane may kr kya raha tha?
Top of that agar govt ne bikers ko extra safety kaliay aik dedicated lane day di hai toh yeh bikes koi aisee dheet nasal hai k usme chalana nahi chahtay. Why? Actually yeh danday or jootay ki qoum hai. Jab tak inko yeh dono cheezay na paray yeh rule follow nahi krtay.

      • Accidents happen because people don’t keep safe distance from the vehicle in front of them, nor do they have any sense of keeping [vertical] space cushion (space between you and the vehicles at right and left).

USA doesn’t have any “left lane” rule, yet they don’t have silly accident like we have in our country.

  • Awam zimedar hai. Bikers ko aik dedicated lane di gae hai k usme safe and sound chalaye lakin unki zid hai k humne main kya top lane may chalani hai. Yeh project ka failure nahi humara as a qoum failure hai. We are not people or nation we are a herd.

  • The decision was stupid in the first place, and was done without proper studies.
In nations where bikes are more than cars you cannot do this also keeping in mind most of the people on street are illiterate and will not follow direction.
Now the biggest question out of this is, a massive chunk of public funds has been wasted in this exercise by LDA without consequence.

    • The agony is … Photoshoot CM and BA/MA pass CSS baboos in bureaucracy cant be touched for wasting billions on their idiotic ideas … They simply dont have any common sense …

  • Bikers everywhere in the country only deserve to be ragged by Police at every junction of the road, otherwise there is no language which makes them understand the civic sense and traffic rules.

    • I think it’s a general behaviour of our people. Rickshaw drivers are terrible in their own way too.

I’d say it all comes down to the lack mindfulness of one’s actions.

  • The Punjab is being looted and destroyed by the illegitimate bunch of corrupt & rotten people who were badly REJECTED by the people in Feb 2024 election. They don’t have any mandate to form govt and run it.
The so called cm is the most unfit person for the job. May ALLAH have mercy on us….

  • That’s awesome .Finally more issuss on the roads.
The reason it failed was bcz motorcyclists weren’t using it

But it’s OK. Life is Cheap. One more good step going down the drain.

  • It was a bad idea which proved the same. Previously, a biker was riding at speeds of 60km per hr and with the bike lane it was traveling at 20 to 40km per hr. Created huge frustration. On top of that illiteracy resulting in zero road ethics non existent in lahories topped it off

  • Wonderful … The shit didn’t stood the test of time for few months … Cant believe how these moron CSS baboos and Politicans come up with such ideas of Jangla busses, seperate bike lanes etc … While they cant manage the single road littered with potholes …

It would have been better to make more lanes and designate them for bikes/ buses using non- intrusive methods, over head lights etc, by dividing an already over congested road, you solve shit…

No wonder f** ing CSS baboos with their BA/MA english try to solve the engineering problems…
