The federal government has declared Saturday, September 6, 2025, a public holiday on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (12th Rabiul Awwal), according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday.
The announcement comes after the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee confirmed last week that the Rabiul Awwal moon had not been sighted, setting the date of Eid Milad-un-Nabi for this Saturday.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi, also known in Arabic as Mawlid al-Nabawi, marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and is observed across the Muslim world on the 12th of Rabiul Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
This year, the holiday coincides with Pakistan’s 60th Defence Day, which is commemorated annually on September 6 to honor the martyrs and veterans of the 1965 war.
All federal government offices, ministries, and departments will remain closed on the day. Provincial governments are also expected to issue notifications in line with the federal announcement.
