The Punjab government has approved the long-delayed elevated expressway project in Lahore, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving travel times across the provincial capital.
The 11-kilometer signal-free corridor will stretch from Main Boulevard Gulberg to the M-2 Motorway, offering commuters an alternative route that is expected to ease pressure on some of the city’s busiest arteries. Officials said the expressway will not only cut travel time but also help reduce fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions.
On Thursday, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Tahir Farooq inspected the proposed route, visiting key points including Main Boulevard Gulberg, Jail Road, Shama Stop, Samanabad, Gulshan Ravi, and Band Road. Calling the project a “game changer,” he emphasized its importance for Lahore’s growing traffic needs.
LDA Chief Engineer Asrar Saeed and NESPAK officials briefed the DG on technical aspects, explaining that the project will directly link Gulberg with the motorway toll plaza, benefiting millions of vehicles.
Sources at LDA revealed that repeated delays have driven costs significantly higher. Initially estimated at Rs. 30 billion, the project’s price tag has now surged to nearly Rs. 120 billion.

Do lahore has 120 billion tax collection a year. Unfortunately development allocation in lhr is higher then it’s tax revenue thereby depriving other cities
Actually it is over 12 times that. Lahore paid over 1500bn in Taxes last year.
The 2nd highest tax paying city in Punjab is Pindi which pays 1/6th the tax Lahore pays (with 1/6th the population). All other cities in Punjab are pathetic in terms of Tax collection. 3rd highest contributor is Faisalabad, Lahore pays 13 times more than it.
Lot more. Estimate their total tax collection using GDP per Capita, population and tax to GDP ratio. It comes out to at least 800 billion annually.
Where is that 800 billion going? Health & educational institution well below the required for a city the size of Lahore.
The capital of the province gets the major chunk of dvelopment budget as it has to sink in the population from sub urban and other cities. Thought the proportion may be too out in punjab but dont u see the same thing happening in other provinces too?

Sorry to say Gulberg is not only a heart of lahore city, there are so many others societies which are belongs to lahore city.i.e Expo Center to Bahria Town Structural plan Road parallel to Canal is so important, because these societies also suffering the Sewerage problems and traffic congestion.

When was the last time you heard about a major Hospital infrastructure in Punjab or even in LHR ? Or any Govt University? New bridges maybe required BUT Hospitals , Educational & research institutions are even more important

AA. It’s better to build road from Firdous market to band road via Karim block, kharak Nala and then direct to M2. It’s cost little bit less and also cover whole main area,s of Lahore.

I feel Lahore & Punjab is the Pakistan only. All development are going there but the business hub and back bone of Pakistan & revenue generated Karachi city is becoming worst kachra city. Why federal government not take action against Sindh government? You have to change amendment for this system. Prime minister should be responsible for whole country not Punjab only.

A project was announced Rs.15765.207 billion for Road construction butt it is second time in my knowledge and Rs.120 billion and many more project are working in shadow. A corruption made working.also debt 52% in a budget 2025/2026.
Give this fund either for Diamer Bhasha Dam, Dasoo Dam, Kalabagh Dam or Greater Soan Dam instead of spending all of Pakistan funds on Takht e Lahore!
Well Punjab allocates the funds and people of those areas enjoy 3 rs unit price of electricity and Punjab pays the 35-40 rs per unit price . Give Punjab the rights of revenue sharing as per investment share, then only Punjab can invest or just ask the Federal Govt for the dams.

Why Lahore? the other small towns in Punjab’s roads conditions are very very poor not transport worthy should spend money on them. And also spending priority should be preventing the flood disaster which happens every year makes more Dams and keeping clear of river’s path.

Typical Pakistani efficiency, a project cost goes up by 4-5 times from conception to completion.
Similarly Reko Deg copper & rare minerals discovered in early 90’s more than 30 years ago yet the country is in $2 billion dollors debt as penalties with any production. We are literally sitting on a gold mine which could change fortunes of the country along with millions of it’s people yet our in-efficient leaders are in the way. I guess they are waiting for the right mining company who is going to give good kick backs to them. Who cares if the country and it’s people loose out.
Best decision since the traffic is insane n with the number of growing housing societies n uncontrollable population this project n any project which can lessen the traffic burden would be a great initiative 👍
Lahorr is a biggest city among punjab and have many purchase and travelling works across all punjab , must have increase its traffic arteries to reduce load on general roads, specially on canal roads ,it hardly to speed more than 20kmph , regards and appropriate timeframe for all these projects , Go ahead with success, Ameen
