Multan Train Service Faces Suspension Due to Floods

Flood pressure in the Chenab River at Multan remains critical, and the administration has decided to create a cut in the Shershah embankment to divert water. Officials fear that breaching the embankment could lead to the suspension of train services.

Railway officials warned that Thal Express, Mehr Express, and the DG Khan Shuttle may face disruption if the Shershah embankment gives way. Meanwhile, the closure of Head Muhammad Wala and Shershah roads has already severed Multan’s ground links with Muzaffargarh, DG Khan, Layyah, Bhakkar, and parts of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

At the same time, India continues to release more water into the Sutlej River, a move Pakistan has described as a violation of the Indus Waters Treaty. The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed receiving intimation through diplomatic channels that high-level floods are expected at Harike and Ferozepur.

In response, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood alert, warning that water levels in the Sutlej are expected to rise further in the coming hours.
