The School Education Department has approved BS degrees as equivalent to a 16-year qualification, paving the way for more than 16,000 teachers to be considered for promotions.
Previously, BS degree holders were not included in the seniority list, which made them ineligible for departmental promotions. Only teachers with MA or MSc degrees were granted promotions under the old policy.
A notification issued by the department confirms that the revised decision will apply to all institutions working under the School Education Department.
According to a private news channel, BS degree-holder teachers will also be considered for promotions in the upcoming meeting of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC), in line with the new policy.
