Consumers to Get Rs. 1.79 Per Unit Relief in September Electricity Bills

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has announced a significant relief for electricity consumers, approving a negative fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of Rs. 1.79 per unit for power consumed in July 2025. The adjustment will be reflected in consumers’ electricity bills for September.

In a notification issued on Tuesday, Nepra stated, “The authority has decided to allow a negative FCA of Rs. 1.7859/kWh for July 2025, to be passed on to the consumers in the billing month of September 2025.”

The negative FCA will apply to all consumer categories of K-Electric and ex-Wapda distribution companies (XWDiscos), with certain exceptions. Lifeline consumers, domestic protected consumers, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS), and prepaid electricity consumers who opted for a prepaid tariff will not benefit from this adjustment.

Nepra clarified that the adjustment will be shown separately in consumers’ bills based on the units billed for the respective month. “In case any bills of September 2025 are issued before the notification of this decision, the same may be applied in the subsequent month,” the notification added.

In a separate decision, Nepra also approved a negative FCA of Rs 0.78 per unit for K-Electric consumers, reflecting a variation in fuel charges for June 2025. This adjustment aligns with the relief already provided to ex-Wapda distribution company consumers.

“The authority has also decided that the negative FCA for June 2025, i.e., Rs. 0.7772/kWh, will be reflected in the September bills,” the notification stated.
