Hyderabad was lashed by torrential rains over the past 24 hours, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirming record-high levels of precipitation in several areas, ARY News reported.
According to PMD data, Latifabad received 280 millimeters of rainfall, the highest in the district. City Taluka followed with 268 millimeters, while Qasimabad and Rural Taluka recorded 185 and 158 millimeters, respectively.
The downpour triggered tragic incidents as floodwaters swept away a rickshaw and a car into the Thado stream. Locals reported that one woman drowned, while another woman and the vehicle’s driver remained trapped inside the submerged car. Police noted that rising water levels in the Konkar stream have complicated rescue operations, with teams still struggling to recover the vehicles.
Latifabad, hardest hit by the rain, saw widespread flooding that disrupted daily life.
Meanwhile, in Karachi, heavy showers left multiple main thoroughfares underwater. M.A. Jinnah Road, Guru Mandir, Golimar, Rizvia, Board Office, KDA, Nagan Chowrangi, and Karelia Stop were among the worst affected, bringing severe challenges for residents and motorists.
Emergencies were also reported in Lassi Goth, Sukhia Goth, and nearby areas, where floodwater entered homes, adding to residents’ difficulties. Police confirmed that the pressure of gushing rainwater led to the collapse of two factory walls.
