Islamabad Opens New Parking Facility for Over 1,000 Vehicles

Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, on Thursday inspected a newly constructed parking facility at the Pak Secretariat, designed to address long-standing parking challenges faced by government employees and visitors.

According to CDA officials, the facility covers 133,729 square feet and has capacity for more than 1,000 vehicles. The project aims to ease congestion in and around one of the city’s busiest government complexes, which houses several federal ministries.

Randhawa said the initiative was part of CDA’s broader efforts to modernize Islamabad’s infrastructure.

“Solving fundamental issues like parking will not only reduce traffic congestion but also save citizens’ time and energy,” he remarked, while appreciating the role of the Engineering Wing and project teams.

The CDA chairman directed staff to ensure vehicles are parked in designated areas and under sheds, with signboards, security, lighting, and cleanliness maintained. He also instructed expansion and activation of the parking lot near Jamia Mosque within the Secretariat and announced plans for an additional facility nearby.

Randhawa added that more modern parking projects would be introduced across the capital to keep pace with the city’s growing population and traffic.

He was accompanied by Member Administration and Estate Talat Mehmood, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon.

    • I find Pro Pakistani articles to be frequently put together in a hurry and lacking complete information.

  • Creating parking facilities alongside any inhabited building is a basic requirement. Such parking lots are planned at the initial stages of construction of sites. However, this does not happen in this country. Propakistani should have shown pics and location of the parking lot.

  • Hope it is a financially feasible expenditure, generating income for CDA.
Parking and allied services/ facilities shd not be free. Compensatory charges be levied. Commercial area shd also be provided.

  • When I was working in the Pak Secretariat in 1975, there were huge underground parking lots constructed along with the several wings of the Secretariat buildings. But, interestingly, I was the only person with an occasional another officer, parking our two cars in the entire complex of underground parking lots. With time, most of all those parking lots were converted into stores and offices.
Now, the vehicles of Secretariat workers have increased so much that, all the available parking spaces, including open-air stands have become insufficient to the extent, new parking plazas with capacities in thousands, are being constructed.
What is the reason? Have we become extremely rich, or infinitely corrupt with complete impunity such that every worker irrespective of his known resources, is riding an exclusive personal vehicle to work, in the same old Secretariat???
