Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is set to inaugurate a new electric bus service in Mianwali on September 15, in what officials describe as a landmark step toward modernizing public transport in underserved regions.
The service, operated by the Punjab Transport Company, will introduce “Electro Green Buses” on routes covering Daud Khel, Bin Hafiz Ji, and Wan Bhachran.
The initiative aims to provide eco-friendly, affordable, and reliable public transportation in areas that have long lacked such facilities.
Last month, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that another fleet of 100 electric buses was being loaded at Yantai Port, China, for delivery to Punjab. These buses will be deployed in districts including Okara, Nankana Sahib, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Pakpattan, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
The provincial government has set the fare at Rs. 20, while ensuring that the buses are equipped with air-conditioning, WiFi, automated ticketing, and facilities for people with disabilities.
