The federal government has instructed gas companies and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to start processing new domestic gas connections under the re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) tariff.
According to a notification issued to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd (SSGCL), the decision follows the federal cabinet’s approval on September 10 to partially lift the ban on new connections. The directive makes it clear that these RLNG connections will not be offered at subsidized rates.
Tariff Framework
Under the approved mechanism, new consumers will be charged as per the monthly RLNG tariff announced by OGRA. The regulator will also set annual targets for domestic RLNG-based connections, taking into account available gas supplies and the processing capacity of the utility firms.
Priority Consumers
Those who have already paid for indigenous gas connections—through demand notes, connection fees, or urgent fees—will be served first.
Gas companies have also been allowed to obtain written undertakings from applicants before proceeding with their RLNG connections. Meanwhile, security deposits and connection charges will continue to be determined by OGRA.
