Punjab to Reportedly Buy Electric Vehicles for Bureaucrats

The Punjab government has initiated the procurement of electric vehicles (EVs) for its officers, according to a report by City42. On September 18, 2025, officials from the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) conducted an inspection of the electric vehicles under consideration for purchase.

During the inspection, Proton Saga presented its electric vehicle to the Punjab government. Additional Secretary of Transport, Zahid Manzoor, was present to review the vehicle’s specifications and performance. The inspection allowed officials to assess the vehicle’s suitability for the intended fleet of government officers.

A spokesperson for the Punjab government confirmed that the procurement process for electric vehicles is progressing and is expected to be completed shortly. This move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to modernize its fleet and introduce sustainable transportation solutions for its officers.

The procurement is part of the government’s broader initiative to reduce its carbon footprint and promote eco-friendly vehicles within its operations. Further details regarding the specific models and manufacturers being considered for purchase will likely be disclosed in the coming weeks.

  • This step would be a heavy burden on the Public Exchequer, without any substantial benefit. The devilish beurocracy of the Punjab is always prone to embark upon misadventures and have no soft corner for the public, whose money is brutally thrown into such projects as contemplated in procurement of E Vehicles!

  • Where is austerity now, or we have rich enough to get alally tallaly… if we became financially stable then give relief to common man in patrol levy , tax on electricity and gas, give then relief in GST, and income tax slabs..
