Authorities in Punjab confirmed on Friday that the monsoon season has officially ended, marking a turning point after weeks of torrential rains and destructive floods that left millions displaced and over a hundred people dead.
Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said water levels in rivers were gradually receding and no further heavy rainfall was forecast for the coming week. “The risk of large-scale flooding has passed, and all breach points have been repaired,” he told reporters in Lahore.
Kathia said the flow of the Sutlej River remained somewhat elevated compared with other rivers but had been dropping consistently for the past two days.
According to PDMA data, the 2025 floods hit villages across 28 districts, affecting nearly five million people. At least 123 lives were lost, with southern Punjab recording some of the heaviest damage.
Officials said relief and rehabilitation work is still underway in the worst-affected areas. Kathia added that Sindh avoided major problems once peak floodwaters passed through Punjab.
The official end of the monsoon season has provided some relief, but recovery for displaced communities is expected to take months.
