30 Electric Buses to Operate on Seven Routes in Faisalabad

A fleet of 30 electric buses has arrived in Faisalabad and will soon begin operations on seven designated routes across the city, officials said on Monday.

According to the district administration, three bus depots are being set up in Ghulam Muhammad Abad, Sargodha Road, and Gutwala Road to support the service. The project is expected to be inaugurated in the coming days by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Officials said the service aims to provide affordable and reliable transport to commuters while easing the city’s growing traffic burden. They noted that the introduction of e-buses would also help reduce dependence on fossil fuels and cut urban air pollution levels.

The new system is part of the provincial government’s broader Green Initiative, which has already seen electric transport projects launched in other cities. Authorities said students and elderly residents would especially benefit from the service due to its low fares and better accessibility.

With Faisalabad facing chronic congestion and deteriorating air quality, local officials hope the electric bus project will provide a more sustainable alternative to existing transport options. The formal launch is expected later this week.
