Holiday Announced in 14 Districts of Province

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on Wednesday, September 24, in connection with local government by-elections across 14 districts of the province.

According to an official notification, all government offices and institutions in these districts will remain closed on polling day to facilitate voters. The districts where the holiday will be observed include Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, and Matiari.

In addition, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Dadu, Badin, Thatta, Karachi West, Karachi East, and Keamari will also observe the holiday.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has called in the Sindh Rangers to maintain law and order during the by-polls. A letter has been sent to the federal interior ministry, requesting Rangers’ deployment at polling stations identified as “most sensitive” in Karachi’s East, West, Keamari, and Umerkot districts.

Officials said the move is aimed at ensuring a secure environment for voters, particularly in areas where law enforcement anticipates heightened risks.
