Punjab Launches Second Phase of Green Tractor Scheme

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the second phase of the Green Tractor Scheme, announcing the distribution of 9,500 tractors to farmers across the province.

The tractors were allotted through a draw, with Nawaz personally phoning several successful applicants to congratulate them. According to the Agriculture Department, the program will eventually provide 20,000 tractors to farmers.

Under the scheme, farmers owning seven acres or more are eligible for tractors ranging from 75 to 125 horsepower. High-powered models carry a government subsidy of Rs. 1 million, while medium-powered tractors receive a Rs. 500,000 subsidy.

Officials reported strong interest from the farming community. Of the 734,000 applications submitted, 282,000 were deemed eligible for the draw. Nearly 98 percent of applicants requested locally manufactured tractors, a sign of growing reliance on domestic production.

Speaking at the ceremony, Maryam Nawaz said the scheme was aimed at easing the financial burden on farmers and ensuring modern machinery reached rural communities. She called the program part of a broader effort to boost agricultural productivity and support Punjab’s economy.
