Pakistan cricket team’s recent struggles have become a topic of international discussion, with England’s seasoned campaigners Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid weighing in on the matter.
The two cricketers addressed Pakistan’s underwhelming results during a recent episode of their popular Beard Before Wicket podcast, which boasts a large audience eager to hear their views on the Pakistan national team.
Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid didn’t hold back, voicing concern over the team’s ongoing struggles and pointing to off-field instability as a key reason behind the decline.
Speaking during the episode, Moeen Ali reflected on how Pakistan were once regarded as one of the world’s most formidable sides, particularly in white-ball cricket. However, he stressed that frequent changes within the PCB and coaching staff have robbed the team of continuity.
“I think Pakistan are just going through a period—have been for a while now—where there’s so much change within the government, first of all, and then that has an effect on the team,” Moeen said. “Coaches come and they can’t really nail it down, and it’s not stable,” he added.
The former England international was, however, full of praise for Pakistan’s resilience.
“They still do well and reach finals, especially when it comes to ICC tournaments. When we were playing, they were the most dangerous team.”
Moeen and Rashid’s analysis echoes the sentiment shared by many within Pakistan’s own cricketing circles. Frequent changes in leadership, coaching staff, and team personnel have prevented the side from forming a clear identity, causing them to fall behind in all three formats of the game.
As Pakistan prepares for a busy international calendar ahead, these remarks serve as a reminder that while talent remains abundant, success will only follow if the foundations are steady.
