Pakistan’s women’s cricket team may have conceded their ODI series to the visiting South Africa, but the three matches turned out to be a historic affair for Sidra Amin, who cemented her case as perhaps the best batter to ever play the game for her country.
Lahore bore witness to history as the 33-year-old rewrote the record books of Pakistan women’s cricket.
The elegant right-hander began her record-breaking run on September 16 with an unbeaten 121, followed it up with a commanding 122 in the second game on September 19, and signed off with a steady 50 not out on September 22—helping her side secure its only win of the series. She finished the three-match ODI series with a staggering 293 runs at the same average of 293. It’s now the highest aggregate ever recorded by a Pakistani batter in a bilateral women’s ODI series, a feat that underlines Sidra’s status as the heartbeat of Pakistan’s batting lineup.
But this wasn’t just a hot streak, it was the continuation of a remarkable career. Sidra Amin practically holds every major WODI batting record for Pakistan. Her six centuries are two more than the rest of the team combined, her career average is higher than any other Pakistani player, and her highest score of 176* is 43 runs clear of second-placed Javeria Khan.
With 2,271 WODI runs to her name in 77 games, she’s well on her way to surpassing the national record for most runs, currently held by Bismah Maroof, who has 3,369 runs from 132 innings.
Her form couldn’t have come at a better time. With the ICC Women’s World Cup looming, Sidra’s presence at the top of the order will be vital to Pakistan’s hopes of competing against the best team’s from across the world.
For now, her name is etched in Pakistan cricket history, 293 runs in three games, the most ODI centuries for her country, and a legacy that inspires the next generation. Sidra Amin hasn’t just raised the bar, she’s redefined it.
