Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Tuesday that “Pink Scooters” will be distributed this week, free of charge, to women in Karachi to support their travel needs.
Speaking to the media during his visit to review the Yellow Line BRT development work, the minister said that construction of depots and related activities was in progress, while the Senator Taj Haider Bridge was in its final stages and expected to be completed within a week.
He said the government, with the support of the World Bank, was working on multiple transport projects in the city. Along with the Pink Scooter distribution, a fleet of double-decker and electric buses would also arrive in Karachi in the coming weeks.
Sharjeel Inam Memon added that during President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit to China, meetings were held regarding the establishment of bus manufacturing plants in Sindh. He said such steps would improve transport facilities and create employment opportunities.
The minister also said hurdles such as utility transfers have delayed some projects, but efforts were underway to resolve them quickly
