Punjab Launches Electro Bus Service in Another District

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday inaugurated Sahiwal’s first electric bus service, introducing a modern and eco-friendly transport option for the city.

The launch ceremony included a test ride by the chief minister, accompanied by Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan and senior officials. Crowds gathered along the route to welcome the buses, reflecting strong public interest in the project.

In the first phase, 16 electric buses will operate on four main routes: Arifwala Bypass to Sarwar Chowk, Noor Shah to KFC Bypass, Farid Town to Yousafwala, and General Bus Stand to Kamir. Authorities estimate that more than 25,000 passengers will use the buses daily.

The fare has been set at Rs. 20 per stop. Each bus comes equipped with Wi-Fi, mobile charging facilities, and CCTV cameras, with a separate compartment reserved for women. A charging station for the buses has also been set up in the city.

Provincial officials said the project is part of efforts to modernize public transport in Punjab’s cities by offering affordable, safe, and environmentally friendly alternatives.
