The Sindh government will soon launch a new “Pink Taxi” service dedicated to women, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari announced on Thursday.
Speaking at a ceremony in Karachi, where free electric Pink Scooters were distributed to women, Bilawal said the taxi initiative would be rolled out in the near future to provide safer and more reliable transport options for female commuters.
“This is only the beginning,” Bilawal told participants. “Very soon, we will hold another event to introduce Pink Taxis for women.” He said the move builds on Sindh’s earlier initiatives, including the launch of electric buses and the Pink Bus service in Karachi, making Sindh the first province to provide women-specific public transport.
During the event, Bilawal distributed keys of free Pink Scooters to women, saying the scheme aimed to reduce travel difficulties faced by female students and workers.
He recalled that earlier in the week, the provincial government also launched the Benazir Hari Card scheme to provide financial assistance to small farmers affected by floods.
Bilawal emphasized that empowering women was central to Sindh’s development agenda, adding that Pakistan’s progress in any sector would not be possible without their active participation.
