The Sindh government has begun formal consultations with Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) to introduce O and A-Level programs in public schools across the province.
On Thursday, Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah met with a CAIE delegation led by Uzma Yousuf, Country Director for Pakistan. Senior officials, including School Education Secretary Zahid Ali Abbasi, also attended the meeting.
Discussions focused on strengthening Sindh’s education system through curriculum development, teacher training, foundational learning, and assessment reforms. Both parties agreed to establish a joint working group tasked with drafting practical strategies and providing long-term recommendations for implementation.
Minister Shah emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that public school students have access to an international-standard education. He announced that at least one school in every district will offer O and A-Level subjects, and assured that registration and examination costs will be subsidized.
“No child should be held back due to financial constraints. We want equal opportunities for all,” Shah said.
CAIE’s country director, Uzma Yousuf, highlighted the importance of teacher training and early education reforms, stressing that O-Level preparation must begin at the foundational level. She pledged CAIE’s full support in reforms, capacity building, and advisory services, describing teacher development as a sustainable long-term goal.
